Misfit Ranch is a Nonprofit 501(c)(3) Rescue and Sanctuary founded by the Parker family, who are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of abused, neglected and misunderstood dogs in need of a better tomorrow.
Run entirely by volunteers, Misfit Ranch rescues with a purpose to save those whose time is running out at public shelters and those in danger of being euthanized due to treatable medical needs or trainable behavioral issue. Often, medical recovery requires a calm and loving environment that cannot be provided in an overcrowded, public setting and behavioral issues present out of fear, which volunteers who have not been educated in training techniques or breed behavior are not properly prepared to handle.

Misfit Ranch provides a variety of services unique to each dog’s needs with the goal of future adoption in mind, without discrimination of breed or need. The dedication to the dogs taken in doesn’t end with finding a forever home. Continued support and services are provided for the life of all Misfit Ranch rescues placed in forever homes. In cases where dogs have complex needs, whether medical or behavioral, they will live out their days in peace at the Misfit Ranch Sanctuary.

THE INTAKE PROCESS

RESCUE
All dogs brought in by Misfit Ranch are in danger of being euthanized. Overcrowded shelters, misunderstanding of breed characteristics and behavioral issues due to lack of training are all common reasons. Injury, chronic illness and disability without a dedicated and compassionate caregiver are also reasons we've encountered dogs on a red list.

We are not licensed to take owner surrenders from the general public. Our residents are pulled from local shelters and animal hospitals to prevent their scheduled euthanasia or were found as a stray by a member of our team and owner location was not successful.

Our goal is to help owners keep their dogs at home. If you are an owner that is considering rehoming your dog, we'd be happy to share our resources for assistance with training, low or no-cost veterinary care and food assistance with you. Please reach out to us for help.

INTAKE
New residents are admitted to the Misfit Ranch Refuge where they they receive a wellness exam, a bath, vaccinations and medication if needed, lots of love and some much needed rest without the stress and chaos of having other residents around. The length of time they spend in the refuge is dependent on their unique needs. Daily exercise, nutritious meals, continued medical care, a comfortable and safe place to rest, human companionship and more are all provided daily. Spay/Neuter will be scheduled if needed and if medically cleared for surgery.

TESTING
While in the refuge center, all incoming residents will receive the following-
- DNA testing for breed identification
- Allergy testing (if indicating a need)
- Age testing for dogs of unknown age
- Behavioral/Cognition Testing to determine training needs
- Temperament testing to determine compatibility with men, women, kids, other dogs, cats, etc.

Program Assignment
Once we've learned all that we can about our new residents, they are moved to our main housing and given their own private space. Training will begin if needed and we'll determine which of the ranch programs best suits their needs.
Dogs assigned to the MISFIT RANCH RESCUE are those in good health that would benefit from a forever family. They are listed on our resident's page as available for adoption.

Dogs assigned to the MISFIT RANCH SANCTUARY are those who would most benefit from living out their days in peace at the ranch. These are dogs with complex needs, whether medical or behavioral, that require specialized care making placement in a home without a professional a risk for the dog.

Regardless of the program our residents are placed in they receive round-the-clock care, nutritious meals, fresh/clean water, daily exercise, play dates with other dogs (if dog friendly) and lots of love.
