Daisy had a very rough start in life. She was used for breeding and dumped at an overcrowded shelter when the breeder was done with her. She had lost all faith in humans, couldn't connect with anyone and avoided contact with people. Making things even more difficult for her, an unfortunate accident while playing with other dogs caused a head injury that needed emergency treatment and hospitalization. A brain bleed and seizures resulted in complete paralysis of the the right side of her body and loss of all bowel control. She had difficulty swallowing and needed to be hand fed. The veterinarian suggested euthanasia because of the work it would take to provide her a decent quality of life but we had hope of providing a happy life for this little girl and were up for the task.

Daisy joined the Misfit Family in 2022. We worked hard on forming a connection with her so she understood we wanted to help her. We provided round-the-clock care and hand fed her nutritious homemade food for every meal the first few months she was with us. Extensive rehabilitation with daily exercises, the use of herbal medicine, daily therapeutic massage, and lots of love and understanding helped her to eat on her own out of a bowl and regain control of her bowels so she no longer needed diapers. With continued support and encouragement she learned how to walk on her own again and although she still a limp on her right side, she is able to run and play with her friends again.

While some days are a little harder for her than others, she is a very happy girl who enjoys playing with her friends, cuddling on the couch and going on short pack walks.

Daisy's medical condition requires her to have daily medication, a closely monitored special diet, weekly medicated baths and regular visits with a clinical pet nutritionist and neurologist. She also requires therapeutic massage on her right side a few times a week, special bedding and can never be left unsupervised.

Because of Daisy's medical and dietary needs, she is a resident of the Misfit Ranch Sanctuary so all of her needs can be met without the worry. She is happy to be home and appreciates your support.
